Anthony Quinn was born in Liverpool. He started out as a freelance writer in London and contributed to The Observer, Guardian, Sunday Times, New York Times, Esquire and Marie Claire. He was for fifteen years the film critic of the Independent (1998-2013). Having been a judge on the 2006 Man Booker Prize he wrote his first novel the following year: the two events may have been related. The Rescue Man (2009) won the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award. Since then he has written eight others, including Curtain Call (2015). A film of Curtain Call, titled The Critic and starring Ian McKellen and Gemma Arterton, is due for release in 2024. His next novel The Mouthless Dead is based on the Wallace murder case in 1930s Liverpool, and will be published in March 2025.
Anthony Quinn and Ragnhild Lund Ansnes chatted all things LFC and Klopp in front of an engaged audience in beautiful Mossley Hill Church.
Anthony also treated the audience to a sneak preview of his next book on Kevin Keegan. We plan to welcome him back to the Smithdown Litfest when it’s published in 2025!
